Tribal Bellydance Smokey look with Morgana Minerals

If there is a a follower of mine that would appreciate this look more than anyone, it would have to be kathyfuckingjacobs. She's a fellow tribal monster! So some of you may or may not know that I'm a bellydancer. I've studied various styles for the past 8 years. The past 2+ years I have spent learning American Tribal Style (ATS) and tribal fusion. This is a type of look I would wear for a performance. Normally I would do more like fake lashes, rhinestones, tribal "dots" etc. However, at the last minute, Jason and I were invited to an amusement park with friends and I didn't want to mess with either having all that on walking around a park, or mess with trying to wash just part of my face off. That's always awkward. So I wore part of this look out last night. My hair lasted through all the rides except that last roller coaster. Ha! My hair was still up in a nice bun, but my side swept bangs totally fell and died...

Out of what I'm wearing, I made the first pair of earrings (with gears), the necklace, the large hair clip, the head band and the bindi is a pendant I altered to make it wearable as a bindi.
The crescent hair stick (looks like horns) I found on the floor at a dance club, the nose chain is a bracelet I bought off of eBay and the hair flowers are from http://hairflowers.net/

Anyway, here's the look. At the end I posted some more info for kathyfuckingjacobs. :-) Enjoy!

So these awesome bloomers Kathy asked me about can be purchased here: http://www.fiveanddiamond.com/store/

I've worn them twice performing with my sweet dance partner, Tava (pronounced Tay-vuh) and I wear them out normally:
These are HUGE 25 yard skirts that we made bustles with. :-)

Video for this performance is very dark so you can brighten your screen to see it a little better. I'm wearing white obviously!:

Shorter bloomers I wore dancing at the club (I made the bra to match):

Another of me at the club wearing a nice pair:

Here's a performance from 2 years ago. This in an improv performance led by ques and transitions. I'm leading on the far right for the first song.

So there you go! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

  5. AGH! I love this whole post so much, I need to just marry it. I squealed when I read the title, and then one sentence below was like, "Hey, that's ME!"

How do you zagarit in type? Hm.

Aha - those bloomers are the same ones I've been drooling for over at bodyartforms.com. They are soooo awesome.

And the performances!! BADASS! In the first one, I think the first solo parts, it made me so happy when you did the shoulder shimmy pops with the bellyroll down and then one up - because when I'm farting around wiggling to music in my car, I am forever using that combo. But my teacher doesn't do many upwards bellyrolls, because she thinks it looks like you're about to hurl. Which is funny, but anyway, I was like, "Yay! Validation that that combo can look rad!" And, aside from Beats Antique being the bomb, "Discovered" was the song we used in the last choreo class I took. :D (I need an emoticon with a bigger grin, I am seriously cheesing so much over here.) And Chico Four Corners is one of my nemeses. (Apologies if the names aren't quite right - I'm led to believe Triangle-area dancers are influenced greatly by the Asheville-area dancers, and that Asheville uses old names/different names/old versions of moves. Like the old Cutiepie, for instance.)

And the second video! My least favorite thing about improv (and why I'm weak at it and need to practice it more) is leading - and there you are, leading! And the moving meditation/respect sequence - I recognize that from my FCBD dvds. And I love the intent in your movements - it's amazing! (Another thing I need to work on, moving with intent/purpose, so something I tend to notice in other dancers.)

I'd apologize for barfing all over your comments about bellydance, except I wouldn't mean it. I loooove nerding out about it. So thanks for all the squee-inducing badassery! \m/

  11. Stunning! You look like an exotic doll. The jewelry is perfect with the rest of your outfit.

About 2 or so months before I had my hip replaced (no, not old, I'm reallllly young to have had it done) the only lower body exercises I could do, without a lot of pain, was belly dancing. It was very fun. However, I'm a total 'behind closed doors' dancer. I'd never do it with only looking other than my husband. hee hee

Hey, I gave you a shout out on my blog. Thanks for helping me out. :D
